Goals Working Group

Write a mission statement. What is our group supposed to be about? How do we decide if a project "fits" in our package of wireless projects or not? We know our choices have to be motivated by "service" but what, practically does that mean? Matt Luis Drew

Proposal/Draft: [http://pactlab-dev.spcomm.uiuc.edu/classes/08SP/496blogs/matt/2008/02/draft-of-mission-statement.html]

Name and Structure Working Group

Come up with some names that can be voted on. How shall we organize our group? Many other service learning classes have "branded" themselves. Is it helpful to give ourselves an identity apart from the University, or should we find a way to use the University's identity? (Or we could do both, but that might be a lot of work.) Lindsay Amanda Erinn

Call for Brainstorming: [http://pactlab-dev.spcomm.uiuc.edu/classes/08SP/496blogs/erinn/2008/02/name-and-structure-working-gro.html]

Workflow Working Group

How can we quickly and easily AND FAIRLY (1) prioritize projects, (2) sign up for them, (3) document who is attached to what project and (4) how it is progressing / when it is finished. WITHOUT burdening ourselves with too much work. Can we use information technology somehow to help? Jake Max Sam Bobby Patrick

Grading Working Group

How can we fairly assess each other and our work? Transform the brainstorming of grading ideas into a rubric we can use to grade ourselves, starting by grading these groups! Kristen Paul Brian Brad

Brainstorming: [496_Peer_Review_Rubric] Proposal: [http://pactlab-dev.spcomm.uiuc.edu/classes/08SP/496blogs/brad/2008/02/grading-rubric-draft.html]

Dissemination Working Group #1: Audience

What are the potential audiences for our work and how do we reach them? True, the audience for any single project might differ from any other, but what dissemination options can we give group members? Is there a way to pool resources between projects for this? (Related to next group.) Chris K. Megean Jameson Chris J.

Write-Up: [http://pactlab-dev.spcomm.uiuc.edu/classes/08SP/496blogs/chris_k/2008/02/dissemination-working-group-1.html]

Dissemination Working Group #2: Products

Come up with some options for products that would aid dissemination of our ideas across multiple projects. This is also very related to our discussions of audience. Will the class have a "grand finale" output of some kind? What will it be? What can we do right now or as we go along to be sure our work is suitable for each/any of these products? (Related to previous group.) Michael Joe Frank

Other Ideas

Working Groups we OUGHT to have but we probably don't need to have right now are listed below. If we were starting a "real" organization not sheltered by the university we would need them!

  • Funding and budget
  • Membership
