Nemesis is a hypothetical brown or red dwarf star that orbits the sun at 50,000 to 100,000 AU. The predicted orbit of such a star could explain the periodicity in the rate of mass extinctions beacuse it would disrupt the orbit of objects in the oort cloud and send them twards the planets every 26 million years.The Nemesis hypothese could also explain the observations that predict Planet X .
