When to run crosstabs

  • If you read the word "ASSOCIATION" in the question, use crosstabs. Among other things, crosstabs can compare two nominal level variables
  • The null hypothesis is that there is no association
  • The alternative hypothesis is that there is an association

How to answer a crosstabs question

  • You will get a Chi-squared statistic. The correct answer (using crosstabs) will report the cross tabs chi square and p value
    • Use this p value to accept or reject the null
    • Go into detail about how the expected value compares with the actual value.
