Galactic conquest

GC is a free (pay for extra features) online game. It can be played in quasi-realtime or turn based (a certain number of turns is generated every hour depending on the server).

You get to explore for planets, manage an economy with its own in-game stock exchange, play as one of many races, use advanced combat strategies with many ships who each have strenghts and weaknesses, dig for mysterious artifacts on strange planets, form a clan ("federation") and go to war against rival clans, and maybe develop a secret weapon so powerful it can destroy 90% of the universe - if only you can survive for 48 hours after activating it while hundreds of players try to tear you down to pieces!

If you play well, you may even end up enslaving dozens of other empires and punish them if they don't do as you said! Beware of massive rebellion, though.

This game is rather new and has only one programmer (whose time seems split between GC and other similar games) so it still has a few bugs. Here is the list GC: bugs
