The name Keurig comes from the Dutch term for "excellence" and it is clear that Green Mountain Coffee, the company that produces the popular single brewing machines, takes the name very seriously. Keurig is undoubtedly the leader in the single cup brewing industry, which seems to have exploded over the last few years and turned home brewing a good cup of coffee into a simple task.
Customer demand brought about this home brewing revolution and Keurig perfected it. The innovative Keurig brewing system allows the same machine to be used for coffee, tea, hot cocoa and even iced beverages all one after another, without even having to clean out the machine.
The Keurig brewing machine works by brewing single serving drinks made with a flavor cup called a K-Cup. The K-Cup has a paper filter that is fitted perfectly to the cup and then the cup is filled with the drink of choice (coffee, tea, cocoa). The cup is then sealed with an airtight foil lid.
During the brewing process, the K-Cup is placed into the Keurig brewing system and a mug or cup is placed on the metal platform below the brewing head. The amount of liquid desired is chosen, which ranges from 4 oz to 12 oz on most brewers, and then the brewing is started. To brew the drink, small holes are punched into the top and bottom of the K-Cup and then the brewer forces hot water through those holes to dispense the drink into the mug below.
New Keurig Products
When the Keurig was originally made, it was intended to make hot drinks. To that end, there are a variety of drinks available: coffee from Starbucks, Green Mountain, Dunkin Donuts, Coffee People and Newman's Own, hot apple cider from Green Mountain, a wide variety of tea from Bigelow, Twinings and Celestial, as well as hot cocoa from Timothy's and Cafe Escapes.
More recently, K-Cups have been released for the brewing of iced beverages as well, with iced coffee, iced tea and lemonade making an appearance. These new iced beverages are brewed slightly differently, wherein a tall glass full of ice is placed under the brewer and the drink is immediately ready to drink.
Prior to these iced drink specific K-Cups were released, innovative Keurig customers were brewing a coffee concentrate for themselves and then putting that over ice and adding cold water or milk.
With all of the great uses for the Keurig, it's no wonder that many homes nationwide own one. While the upfront cost may seem off putting to some people, it really is one of the most economical choices on the market for consistently delicious and well made home brewed coffee. Finding Keurig coupons that can either be used online or in stores make this product even more appealing than it is already.
While there are many websites on the internet that offer coupons or discounts for Keurig machines or K-Cups, the best place to look is first the Keurig website. The website will sometimes offer discounts on the machines themselves, but the real savings come into play when customers sign up for Keurig's Coffee Club.
