Marie Callender's History
Marie Callender was famous for her pies in Orange County, California in the early 1940s when she and her husband, Cal, decided to put her baking talent to good use and start a business. Within a few years, Marie was baking over two hundred pies a day and delivering them to local restaurants. In 1964, Marie's son, Don, opened their first pie and coffee shop in Orange, California and, in 1969, it was enlarged into a full scale restaurant with Marie herself creating much of the menu and recipes.
Today there are one hundred and thirty restaurants located in ten western states: California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Nevada, Arizona, Texas and Oklahoma. All of them offer Marie's classic American comfort food, such as meatloaf and mashed potatoes, chicken pot pie, and roasted turkey dinner.
There are also wonderful salads, like Gorgonzola, Pecans and Field Greens Salad, seafood such as Cajun jumbo shrimp and grilled salmon, great burgers and pastas, as well as interesting and delicious chicken and beef entrees. And all restaurants offer a full salad bar, homestyle soups and their famous cornbread. Breakfast is also served at many locations, including a Sunday Brunch Buffet, and has delicious items like Belgian waffles, quiche, Wild Berry French Toast and Eggs Benedict.

The famous pies that started it all are also still there, over thirty varieties of them. There are cream pies, including chocolate, banana and coconut, and German Chocolate, Double Cream Blueberry and Double Cream Lemon; fruit pies such as berry, apple, cherry and razzleberry; and seasonal fresh fruit pies like peach, strawberry and fresh summer berries.
Marie's classics are also favorites, like lemon meringue, key lime, pumpkin and French apple pie, and there are new favorites such as Kahlua Cream Cheese Pie, chocolate satin and sour cream apple. Special Cheesecakes are also popular, including Caramel Apple New York Cheesecake and Oreo Cookie Topped Cheesecake.
