P. F. Chang's, formerly known as P. F. Chang's China Bistro, Inc. was founded in the year 1993 in Scottsdale, Arizona by a man named Paul Fleming. It is a public company and was incorporated in 1996. In 1995, Paul Fleming spreads his business to California and opens three additional restaurants. Just one year later, in 1996, P. F. Chang's was hailed the year's "Hot Concept” by "Nation's Restaurant News.

In 1998, the company beings to profit and begins publicizing. Today, it employs around 5 thousand people and as recently as 1999 has made $s53.3 million in sales and 29 restaurants. It is a full service restaurant and is also responsible for opening Pei Wei Asian Diner. Today, P. F. Chang’s has over forty restaurants open in 19 states.

Founder

Founder Paul Fleming, a Louisiana native had an original idea. He wanted to make a change in the Chinese food industry. And so, he served traditional Asian food with an American twist. Thus, P. F. Chang’s was born. Paul Fleming joined forces with master chef Philip Chiang, and through a combination of their names, they derived the name of the restaurant.

Paul Fleming was he president of Fleming Chinese Restaurants Inc, after he had owned other franchises such as Nola's Mexican Restaurant and Z'Tejas Grills. Though these were somewhat successful, it wasn't until Fleming opened his first P. F. Chang’s in Scottsdale, Arizona in 1993 that he met with unmatched success.

In 1996, Paul Fleming chose Richard L. Federico to head up the P. F. Chang's empire. Richard L. Federico became president of P. F. Chang's after he resigned as president of Macaroni Grill for Brinker international. Bert Vivian became the Chief Financial Officer and Greg Carey became the Chief Operating Officer.

Specialties

P F Chang's serves American style Chinese cuisine. The style and decor of the restaurant mimics authentic Chinese architecture with dine in service. Most restaurants display art form the Ming and T'ang dynasty, though the serving style is similar to an American steakhouse.

The serving portions are large but moderately priced so that P. F. Chang's is accessible to all classes. Customer service is greatly emphasized at P F Chang’s and servers are encouraged to offer pairing suggestions to maximize the food experience for guests.

Menu

Though the P. F. Chang's menu offers less Asian food options than many other Chinese eateries, P. F. Chang's offers a wider variety of foods from other cultures. The menu includes traditional Chinese food alongside wines and cheeses. P. F. Chang's even offers coffee and espresso to guests, treats not usually offered in traditional Chinese restaurants.


Appetizers range from traditional egg rolls too Chang's spare ribs, mixing the Asian cuisine with American tastes and preferences. Also available are dynamite shrimp, crab wontons, northern style spare ribs, and many more options.

Entrees include dishes of lamb, pork, chicken, duck, seafood, beef, noodles, rice, and vegetarian dishes. P. F. Chang’s also has a gluten free menu and a kid's menu. Entrees for two makes eating out with a partner more cost effective and just as delicious.

Desserts range from carrot cake to the Great Wall of Chocolate. Cheesecake, tiramisu, and red velvet cake also grace the menu, along with the flourless chocolate dome fro gluten free eaters and banana spring rolls.
