Garter Stitch

From BluWiki

Garter stitch is the simplest stitch pattern in knitting. In flat knitting it is done by knitting every row. In circular knitting it is done by knitting the first row and purling the second. The reason for this is that the purl stitch is the back of the knit stitch.
